Kathryn Dewey

Professor, Department of Nutrition, Director, Program in International and Community Nutrition, University of California, Davis

She has conducted clinical and community-based research on maternal and child nutrition in several countries, including the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Ghana, Malawi, and Bangladesh.

Dr. Dewey currently leads an international research consortium that developed and is evaluating a novel approach to enrich diets with small amounts of lipid-based nutrient supplements designed for prevention of malnutrition in pregnant and lactating women and their children under the age of two in low-income countries. Her extensive professional service includes scientific consultation for WHO, UNICEF, PAHO, NIH, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and serving as President of the Society for International Nutrition Research and of the International Society for Research on Human Milk and Lactation. Dr. Dewey has mentored more than 40 graduate students and produced more than 300 publications. She has received several national and international awards for her work.
